1) UNDERWRITER LABORATORIES (UL):
Right now we are following the UL Standard 1950 2nd and 3rd Editions for all our I.T.E. equipments. From april 1, 2000, UL will not accept the application for UL 1950 2nd Edition, they will only accept the application for UL 1950 3rd Edition. The difference between UL 1950 2nd Edition and 3rd Edition is basically the creepage; clearance and the spacing requirement in the power supply area. The products that are approved before March 31, 2000, as UL 1950 2nd Edition, they will be allowed to sell till april 1, 2005, after that we have to bring our product to UL 1950 3rd Edition compliance or if we have decided not to produce that product any more we can just delete them.
UL 1950 Standard is basically the same standard as International Standard IEC 950 + US deviation.
UL 1950 Standard = IEC 950 + US Deviation.
In order to get UL 1950 approval, UL engineer does the series of tests, most common tests are:
Input test, temperature test, leakage current test, dielectric test, high voltage test, transformer overload test, open and short test on the critical components of the Main and power supply board, impact test, oven test and mold stress test.
If nothing goes wrong it takes 6 weeks to get the UL approval. Once you get the UL approval you can put the UL label with UL mark on the products. See below for UL label/mark.
